1-01. Preventing Fire

  1. To prevent cooking oil fires
    Always turn off the flame when leaving the stove.
    Do not leave easily flammable objects near the stove.
  2. To prevent fires caused by smoking
    Do not smoke in bed.
    Do not leave a room in which you have placed a lighted cigarette.
    Fully extinguish and dispose of cigarette butts.
    Use a proper receptacle to dispose of cigarette butts.
    Place water in ashtrays.
    Do not allow cigarette butts to accumulate in ashtrays.
  3. To prevent fires from electrical equipment
    Do not plug too many devices into the same outlet.
    Periodically clean the plugs so that dirt does not collect on them.
    Do not place electrical cords underneath furniture or other heavy objects.
  4. To prevent fires from space heaters
    Use space heaters that self-extinguish during earthquakes.
    Always turn the space heater off when refilling kerosene oil heaters.
    Do not place easily flammable objects near the space heaters.
  5. To prevent arson
    Do not place easily flammable objects near the house.
    Keep the area around the house well lit.
    Put out garbage on the morning of collection days.

Sudden illness,serious injury, and accident

1-05. How to make an emergency call

In case of a sudden illness or injury, call the fire department for an ambulance. In cases of minor injuries or normal illness, use a taxi or car, etc. to get to a hospital or clinic.

When a person is trapped and cannot escape due to a traffic accident or an incident involving machinery, shout to people nearby to call the Fire Department and ask that a rescue squad and a fire truck be sent.
